Magnificent American primitive/folk art sculpture of a cowboy on a rearing horse with a lariat. This wonderful piece is constructed in the same manner as a paper scultpture but it is made of thin pebbled sheets of aluminum. The detail and workmanship is truly amazing, the frozen action incredible and the eye of whoever made it genuinely gifted. On the subject of who made it, it is simply signed on aluminum plate nailed into its "chunk of wood" base with the letters"R.M.P." The artist had clearly exhausted his greatest gifts on the statue for when it came to titling the piece he obviously plumbed the depths of his fertile mind and came up with "Cowboy". This too is engraved on the plaque on the base together with the date 1977. This is a wonderful and unusual piece and no photo can do it justice. Its overall condition is excellent while being obviously handmade, and as such somewhat fragile. It is 22 1/4" tall from the top of the stetson to the bottom of the base and 24" wide from the horse's tail to his front raised hoof. The hand hewn wooden base is 9 1/4" long by 3 5/8" square.
