French Art Deco sterling silver and black onyx compact with original pink silk powder sieve by Fembetet.Circa 1945.The stunning machine turned barley pattern surface is accented on all four sides with bands of plain silver inset with onyx.It is stamped Fembetet on the inside and carries French hallmarks on the clasp.There is slight flaking to the silvering on one edge of the beveled mirror on the inside, but otherwise this piece is in excellent condition.The essence of design simplicity – this one is a winner!
